DFL on 2006

A refreshing, intelligent discussion of Minnesota state politics.

A new DFL? I didn't think so.
Education. Health care. Property taxes.

Anyone see "gift card fees" and "car returns" in there? Me neither.

After vowing to focus overwhelmingly on those three things, DFLers have released their first two legislative initiatives. First, they are proposing to end service fees charged on old gift cards. (By the way, most retailers, for customer-service reasons, no longer charge fees.) Then they come out with permitting a two-day window to return a car. (You would think that car purchasers would sharpen their pencils before buying a car.) Mind blowing.

I understand the policy behind these. And I get that the proposals are ways for newly elected senators to receive earned media. But voters went blue this year in hopes of solving real problems.

Education. Health care. Property taxes. I figured the DFL could at least make it until January before their legislative power caused them to forget why they were elected in the first place. But, like usual, the DFL is trying its best to shoot itself in the foot. I guess it still is my daddy's DFL.
